Greenwood County is one of the counties that make up the Upstate of South Carolina. It lies in the heart of the Upper Savannah region midway between the Greenville-Spartanburg area to the north and the State Capital of Columbia to the southeast.
It was formed in 1897 from portions of Abbeville and Edgefield counties. Its county seat is the city of Greenwood. Other communities comprising the county include the towns of Hodges, Ninety Six, Troy, and Ware Shoals, as well as Bradley, Cokesbury, Coronaca, and Promised Land.
